The Grotta Fund for Senior Care of the Jewish Community

Dedicated to positively improving the lives of seniors primarily living in Essex, Morris and Union counties, the Grotta Fund for Senior Care provides grant support to local agencies which benefit older adults and their families, helping them to live independently and safely in their homes and communities.

Grotta is a community advisory fund of the Jewish Community Foundation of MetroWest NJ, created in 2003 with the proceeds from the sale of the Theresa Grotta Center for Rehabilitative Services. Grants are selected through a competitive Request for Proposal (RFP) process during two grant cycles per year. In each cycle, the RFP highlights a particular program focus or seeks grants which support Grotta’s overall mission.  Grant selections are made on a non-sectarian basis.

Grotta helps support Jewish Family Services

One of the top priorities of Jewish Family Service is serving the needs of the elderly, who are greatly in need of mental health counseling services and are motivated to obtain them. This population however presents a unique problem for mental health professionals as it is hindered by a lack of both mobility and public transportation. Our geriatric, licensed social workers, therefore, provide in-home mental health services such as assessment and therapy to senior citizens who live alone, in assisted living facilities or in group home facilities.
